Anecdotic music

As with Luc Ferrari, it is an assemblage of recorded sequences in which we recognize a succession of various events and we reconstruct in our imaginary a possible narrative that may have been at the origin of these sounds. This is not the sound landscape (Soundscape or Field recording) whose neutrality of the author must be one of the characteristics. It is not reportage. Above all, it involves the assembly, by montage and superposition, of sounds of different origins with the intention of composing a musical continuity which can be assimilated to a kind of sonorous narrative. In any case, it is the listener who has to construct his own story based on his recognition of the sources, or according to his interpretation of these sources. The composer organizes the different sounds, puts them in relation, creating associations but also contradictions in the mind of the listener.

In 2012 Franciso Meirino and Yan Jun met in Lausanne during Luff Festival. They started to brew a collaboration based on materials from live concerts: live recordings, soundcheck recordings, field recordings and so on. In January of 2014, Francisco sent his one hour track to Yan. After about six months Yan made his own, when he had almost forgotten what Francisco’s track sounded like. They kept this pace of working/forgetting/working until 2016, producing two more tracks and a few adjustments. Finally, they turned back to a simple mix of the first two tracks, The Blind Match.

It keeps a slow pace, as if we have all the time we need.

FRANCISCO MEIRINO Ten Modular Synth Etudes

Label : Flag Day Recordings (Usa) / Format : digital files / 5.- $ (or more)

An unconventional release since it isn't a traditional album. It serves as a teaser for an upcoming, more "classic" Meirino album that we will be releasing later in 2018. Secondly, this is a raw unmixed and unedited look at one of my favorite artists and inspirations.

We are getting a peek at how Francisco builds his masterpieces, which to me is a huge gift and I'm super happy to have the chance to give you those glimpses with this anthology.

Enjoy the sine waves and textures!

Sound Installation

speakers, audio mixer, computer, audio loop.

A commission from the LUFF/OFF Répression sonore

October 18th to 22nd 2017 at Chapelle de Tell, Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Squawk Box was reportedly to be used by the British Army in the 1970’s to disperse riots in Northern Ireland. I tried to reconstruct this non-lethal weapon, based on the high-volume diffusion of two (very close) high frequencies.

The installation was running for 6 hours - non stop, right in the front of the festival’s main entrance.

Every day, from 18:00 to 24:00, during the 4 days of the LUFF festival, 2017.

"La Gueule Du Loup" explores raw improvisation in a crude, almost cruel manner. On this project the two musicians build musical pieces free of pre-existing structures  or recorded sounds. The electronic matrix arises from the modules and is immediately  propelled into the atmosphere. The two unpatched modular synthesizers first suggest  a virgin circuit, patches are build during the performance, during the composition.  Cosmetic memory plays a secondary role here, catapulted sytles shoving the idea of  unified styles, this is another memory, where the patch is a substitution  to ensure  a sound coherence of elements, tones, micro-tones, rhythms, order and chaos.

Recorded during a residency at GRM, Paris.

Digging inside yourself, requires a huge stash of patience & persistence to overcome every obstacle found. You have to dig down, deep enough, to discover something that will make you dig deeper & deeper. After listening to Francisco Merino’s “Dissension” you will appreciate the fact that you came out alive after all & this is certainly a good start, isn’t it? (label press-release)
